Guide to Dog Breeds
What is a purebred? This is a dog whose mother, father and all ancestors are of the same breed.
What is a mutt or mixed dog? This is a dog whose breed is from a multiple different breeds. With the purebred breeds you can do research and find out what your puppy will look like when he or she get older, but for the mixed dog it will be difficult to determine what the dogs adult appearance will be and which dominate features will come out. Either way in both your puppies personality will be his own.

The Toy Group
This is a group of small and long lived dogs. They require minimal exercise.

Chihuahua
The size:
Height: Approximately 5 inches
weight: up to 6 lbs.

The temperament:
Feisty and devoted to his owner. They are also very intelligent. However they can be snappish and territorial. Need to be careful around children.
Grooming
Requires minimal brushing with minimal shedding. If long-coated variety requires moderate brushing.
Training & Exercise:
Requires minimal exercise.

Pug
Size:
Height: 10-11 inches
Weight: 14-18 lbs

Temperament:
Very playful, easy going with even tempered and very clever. Very good family pet.
Grooming
Heavy shedding, short smooth coat. Minimal brushing required.
Training & Exercise
Requires minimal exercise. Needs ongoing training for mental stimulation.

Shih Tzu
Size:
Height: 8-11 inches
Weight: 9-16 lbs

Temperament:
Fun-loving,very friendly and intelligent.
Grooming:
Requires daily brushing, has long dense coat. Will need professional grooming. Minimal shedding
Training & Exercise:
Minimal exercise, Needs regular training for mental stimulation.

Yorkshire Terrier
Size:
Height: 7-9 inches
Weight: 3-7 lbs

Temperament:
Very devoted and clever. Snappish if spoiled and barky.
Grooming:
Requires daily brushing, long fine coat.
Training & Exercise:
Needs moderate exercise, ongoing and professional training recommended.

Airedale Terrier

Temperament
Fun-loving, playful and very protective of owner.
Grooming
Wiry coat that requires weekly brushing. Minimal shedding, should have professional grooming.
Training & Exercise
Needs lots of exercise, ongoing socialization and professional training recommended. Needs to stay very active.

Miniature Schnauzer

Temperament
Spirited, sensitive, prone to barking, self-assured, very active

Wiry coat that requires weekly brushing. Minimal shedding, should have professional grooming.

Moderate exercise, professional classes recommended

Scottish Terrier

Temperament
Independent and feisty, very devoted to owner. Good with older children

Dense wiry coat that requires regular brushing. Minimal shedding,professional grooming required.

Moderate exercise, classes recommended with early and ongoing socialization.
